SUMMARY:Cambridge Watershed: Water Supply Protection in a Developed Environ
 ment
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon program at Bemis Hall all about the Ca
mbridge Reservoir\, also known as the Hobbs Brook Reservoir. This reservoi
r is an important part of Cambridge's water supply and it's right in our b
ackyards! Nearby conservation lands demonstrate an ongoing collaboration b
etween the City of Cambridge\, LLCT/RLF\, and the Town of Lincoln to prote
ct important watershed lands and ensure safe drinking water.\n\nThe City o
f Cambridge's Water Department monitors water quality\, water level\, and
other key data points. Come learn about this fascinating body of water\, i
ts history\, and how it is maintained.\n\nThe Watershed Division manages t
he quantity and quality of the City's source waters\, roughly 1\,500 acres
of water supply protection land\, two high hazard dams\, and Fresh Pond R
 eservation\, Cambridge's largest open space.\n\n[gallery columns="2" size=
"medium" ids="2012\,2013"]\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nFree. All are welcome.  Parking
is available at Bemis Hall\, across the street at the Stone Church\, at th
e Library\, and along designated areas on Old Lexington Road. In the event
of adverse weather\, an update will be posted online and on the LLCT phon
e line  781-259-9251.\nMeet the Speaker\n\nDavid Kaplan is the Watershed
Manager for the Cambridge Water Department and has been critical to the on
-going conservation efforts adjacent to the reservoir. He holds a Masters
of Environmental Management in Water Resources Management from Duke Univer
sity's Nicholas School and a B.S. in Environmental Science and Biology fro
 m Tufts University.\n&nbsp\;
