SUMMARY:Fireside Chat: Ron McAdow and Mammals on Wildlife Cameras
DESCRIPTION:Active mostly at night\, alert and skittish in the daytime\, wi
 ld mammals are seldom observed in the field. Motion-activated cameras give
  us glimpses of these animals as they rove our conservation land and our n
 eighborhoods. Ron McAdow started using this equipment in 2000\, when image
 s were still recorded to film. He co-chaired a team appointed to monitor
  activity in the wildlife tunnels installed beneath the re-built Route 2. 
 In recent years Ron has used these cameras to record mammal activities in 
 Adams Woods and at Farrar Pond.\nIn this slide presentation\, Ron will sho
 w photos and videos of fox\, bobcat\, coyote\, fisher\, beaver\, otters\, 
 and other species\, recorded in Lincoln and nearby towns. He will explain 
 the challenges posed by this equipment and share the results he has obtain
 ed over the years. After his presentation\, there will be an opportunity f

 d from his native state of Illinois to Massachusetts in 1971 and has spent
  his adulthood living in towns west of Boston\, except for two years in Te
 xas. Ron has made films and books for children and has worked to build car
 e for the natural world\, as a writer\, photographer\, and leader of a lan
 d trust. Ron authored The Concord\, Sudbury\, and Assabet Rivers: A Guide
  to Canoeing\, Wildlife\, and History\, and The Charles River: Exploring
  Nature and History on Foot and by Canoe.  Shortly before he was hired by
  Sudbury Valley Trustees\, Ron set up a nature photography website\, the p
 recursor of SVT’s “Nature Sightings.” Ron served as Executive Direct
 or of SVT from 2003 – 2013.\nRon's most recent publications are a guide 
 to Mount Misery (2021) and an illustrated edition of Emerson's Nature (20
 22). These great guides to the Lincoln and Concord area can be purchased l
 ocally at Something Special and online. \nRon is a graduate of the Univer
 sity of Chicago. He lives on Farrar Pond in Lincoln with his wife\, Betsy 
 Stokey. During their nature-centered travels Ron practices his hobby of ph
 otography.
