Buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis): Perennial, multi-stemmed shrub which grows 6-12 ft. Prefers sun and extremely moist, even flooded, soil. Flowers are small, balls of white or pink flowers which resemble pincushions, with fringe of pistils protruding. Nutlets are rounded masses which persist through winter.
