Naturalist Norman Levey has been out in the field this week. He has shared a couple stunning video clips of wildlife seen in the fields along Baker Bridge Road in mid September.
Bombus fervidus the first one found by Norm in several years. The Golden Northern Bumblebee is one of the target long-tongued bees supported by LLCT’s pollinator action plan. It is a worker bee, so potentially there is a nest nearby. This bee was visiting a cultivated Mexican Sunflower.
A flock of about 25 Bobolinks near Baker Bridge Fields and the Food Project, enjoying the seed heads of cultivated flowers and tall grasses in areas of the field that had been left fallow. They are likely migrating south from Canada.
