The Traveling Tales of an Elusive Species on Martha’s Vineyard: The Spotted Turtle

Join LLCT and Liz Olson for a virtual fireside chat on February 6th from 7-8 p.m.

Liz Olson, Wildlife Biologist and Assistant Director of BiodiversityWorks, a nonprofit on Martha’s Vineyard that focuses on wildlife research and monitoring, has been on the search for this elusive reptile since 2020. The spotted turtle, while quite common on the mainland, persists in only small numbers on the Vineyard. Tune in to hear some of Liz’s stories from the field as she recounts how her team tracks and tags turtles. Liz will then provide details of her research  into the turtles’ movements and population status.

Liz Olson founded BiodiversityWorks with her colleague Luanne Johnson in 2011. She received her undergraduate degree in wildlife management from the University of New Hampshire and her MS in Conservation Biology from Antioch New England University. Liz has studied a variety of species during her 20 year career like piping plovers, river otters, northern long-eared bats, black racer snakes and spotted turtles.

This is a free, zoom program. Please register in advance to receive the meeting link.
