LLCT and Lincoln Conservation Department are teaming up to offer a rain barrel purchasing program, last offered in Lincoln in 2021!
Why rain barrels? This past summer, many communities reported several inches of rain within just a few hours. On August 8, more than six inches of rain fell on parts of Massachusetts. Drivers were stranded in their cars. Heavy rains sent bacteria-laden storm water into the ocean and many of our beaches had to close. By October 2, there had been only five rain-free weekends since Memorial Day. This is a direct crisis of climate change.
Rain Barrels benefit both communities and our planet by:
- Providing a clean, untreated water source that can be used for gardening and cleaning.
- Decreasing energy consumption and greenhouse emissions at water treatment plants which is crucial to fighting climate change.
- Reducing water bills up to 40% and can save homeowners 1300 gallons of water annually.
- Using less water helps to sustainably manage water as a global resource, ensuring its availability for future generations.
